An Introduction from the Paragon Refugee

Hey all, thought I'd start this blog once I started to face reality and come to terms with the fact that my beloved City of Heroes is (probably) going away for good. I know there are many efforts to save it, but I don't have years to wait on an emulation server - more power to those working on it, so it's time to move on.

But some background before that, right?

I'm @Epsicon in City of Heroes, and primarily played on Virtue for the last three years. The previous five, I ran with a group called the Night Watch Men on Freedom. When World of Warcraft came out, the Night Watch Men all but disbanded and jumped ship over to the new thing. I reluctantly followed, but kept my City of Heroes subscription. Soon, City of Villains went into beta and I got in.

Life. Changer.

I'd revisit World of Warcraft from time and time again, but City of Villains was my thing. Some of the Watchmen returned for City of Villains, but after they jumped back to Blizzard's unstoppable beast, I stayed. Soon after, I transferred over to Virtue, seeking something I hadn't done much of in an MMO. Role Playing.

Virtue was the unofficial role-playing server, and seemed like a good fit. As the years went on and City unfortunately slowly bed subscribers, Virtue became the next biggest server compared to Freedom. Sometime after the free-to-play conversion, Virtue became the top server. For years, you could say the role-playing community was City of Heroe's backbone.

On Virtue, I found two amazing groups that were quite polar opposites: The Honorable Criminals were not a role-playing group at all, but helped me transition into Virtue's community with relative ease and always had a group waiting. So, a big thank you to Lady Zy, Vikkita and Brian. Months after running with The Honorable Criminals, I found Titan Industries, led by @Andy.

Two years and some passed before the group took a hiatus, and those years were a complete blast. I was challenged in my writing, my role-playing, my costuming and my character concepts. I had came a long way from the days of Freedom where I wrote a line or two about a character, but otherwise didn't think much of who or what they were.

Sadly, a little over a week ago, NCSoft announced they were shuttering City of Heroes. After finding a place to call home and evolving as a creator in many ways, my muse was going to vanish forever come December. While heartbroken, I wasn't going to let NCSoft end the process I had began many years ago.

So, I've become the Paragon Refugee. While I am moving on, I'll keep a place for City with me for decades to come. It helped me grow in many ways, and I can't forget that. While I search for a new place to call home and this blog will serve to assist others in their search (or just tell stories of my own journey), I'll still have Paragon with me. NCSoft can't take that.
